Your Confidant

The world doesn't stop and wait
While I sit here, being your confidant
Time won't stand by wondering
Like I seem to do every day you're around
Keeping us both company like fools
Destined to be so much more...apart

Together is such a hateful word
To the hairs pricked on our ears
Controlling the way our thoughts react
Killing off all the hopes of the morning
Plunging like the knives into the bright night
Holding the lanterns to find our way
Away from these hours spent wondering
Closing off all the wounds in this path
Covering the lack of will with a blanket

Holding on is a skill I've learned with time
But it's gonna be the down fall of life
If I keep on with you in this place
So leaving is the only way out
Without losing the last bit of myself
Left to bleed for your screaming heart

Get out while you still can
While the caves haven't closed you in
Squeezing the air from your last lung
Quitting time for you and your memories
Gathering the final strength to find time
To see new light, like a brand new day
While the wings will still grow new
Avoiding inhaling the smoke from the fire
Of leaving the labyrinth to decay
