The Expectation Heavy In The Air

I hold out my hand
The expectation heavy in the air
I watch as you stare
Contemplation written all over
Your furrowed face
Can you even open up
Let someone come inside
Reveal just a little of yourself
I don’t know how
To give anymore
My heart and body are spent
Trying to be there for you
By your side
Holding on to hope
And still you turn away
Shutting me out
Well this is the last time
I can’t do this anymore
Not when you won’t even try
When I get nothing in return
